Abstract

Casting.-In a process of melting iron in a cupola furnace, the charge consists of alternating layers of coke, wood, iron or steel scale of any kind mixed with common salt or equivalent sodium salts, and pig-iron. The percentage proportion of salt employed varies directly as the size of the cupola.
